Mud Creek Crawl Pt. 6 (end of Ch. 1), the story continues
with one virtual and four in-person events, barc continues to let richard direct the only trail race barc has on it's calendar...for now anyway. so the legend of The Crawl continues on with the pourquoi story.
the trail run originated with the tri-city nordic ski club, led by don kane, continued under the direction of john mcpeak, picked up by tri-to-finish (now dig deep) for a few years before finding a home with barc. through all of this the midland county parks and recreation department has been an instrumental partner in letting all of us run through pine haven. during john mcpeak's tenure, the mud creek crawl was a nationally recognized off-road race: _runner's world_ top 13 out-of-the-way races. we won't be that this year, but we'll endeavour to get back to that level of excellence through perseverence.
mcpeak developed a handicapping system that had times adjusted according to body type, sex, age; as in past years, we'll try to get into place for this year. who knows, we may even succeed. know that we'll give this a good reform school try.
as always, you can expect the usual clown show of a race experience typical of richard's "style". the course will be clearly marked, hopefully, but we still won't be able to help any of the 5k runners who decide to get another bonus 5k by following the runner in front of them. we'll work on getting an aid station out on the 10k course, there will be the requisite junk food at the finish.
shirts, for those who want them: dark blue, sleeveless tech shirt (closer to a muscle shirt, and the last year we'll use this style) with the logo, slightly modified to reflect this point of the story, on the left front, and the comic strip panel on the back. deadline for the shirt is 3sep at midnight.
a quick note on the shirts: i went a little crazy on the colour scheme which is why they are a little more expensive than usual. i figure since we're closing out the first chapter of the story, a little extra colour is warranted. i am still selling these under-cost, like a putz, in the hope that i reach the breakpoint where they get a little cheaper.
cost:
$15 for the race, with no shirt
$40 for the race, with the shirt ($42.50 if you want a XXL)
looking forward to seeing you at this local fan favourite race with almost a cult-ish following.
